- What is Hanwha NVRs’ RAID type? Is it h/w RAID or s/w RAID?
- SRN-1000 and SRN-4000 support s/w RAID based on Linux software RAID.
- What kind of RAID levels do Hanwha NVRs support?
- SRN-1000 supports RAID level 5.
- SRN-4000 supports RAID level 5 and 6.
- What is the minimum number of HDDs to build a RAID system?
- SRN-1000 requires at least 4 HDDs for RAID level 5.
- SRN-4000 requires at least 5 HDDs for RAID level 5 and 6 HDDs for RAID level 6.
- Is there any difference between RAID mode and non-RAID mode in terms of the performance?
- RAID mode has 4 statuses such as BUILD, ACTIVE, DEGRADED, and REBUILD.
- In RAID mode, SRN-1000 always has the same recording performance regardless of its RAID status.
- SRN-1000’s recording performance is up to 100Mbps in non-RAID mode, but it decreases to 64Mbps in RAID mode.
- SRN-4000 cannot perform the recording in BUILD status.
- SRN-4000 can perform the recording in DEGRADED and REBUILD status, but the performance decreases from 400Mbps to 200Mbps in RAID level 5 and to 150Mbps in RAID level 6.
- SRN-4000’s recording performance depends on the type of HDDs and setup
- How long does it take to build and rebuild?
- SRN-1000 does not need additional time for BUILD, but it requires 24 Hours for REBUILD with 1TB HDDs.
- SRN-4000 cannot perform the recording during BUILD status and the building time is approximately 16 Hours with 1TB HDDs.
- The time for BUILD or REBUILD is proportional to the capacity of the equipped HDDs.
- Is there any relationship between RAID status and I-frame recording?
- There is a performance degradation in DEGRADED (or REBUILD) status and it is more likely to result in I-frame recordings. However, it does not mean that the RAID status always causes the I-frame recording.
- SRN-4000’s recording performance decreases from 400Mbps to 200Mbps in DEGRADED (or REBUILD) status of RAID level 5. If the receiving bitrate is larger than 200Mbps in the mode, it starts to record I-frame only.
- SRN-4000’s recording performance decreases from 400Mbps to 150Mbps in DEGRADED (or REBUILD) status of RAID level 6. If the receiving bitrate is larger than 150Mbps in the mode, it starts to record I-frame only.
- SRN-1000’s recording performance decreases from 100Mbps to 64Mbps in any status of RAID level 5. If the receiving bitrate is larger than 64Mbps, it starts to record I-frame only.
- Are Hanwha NVRs Hot-swappable?
- SRN-4000 supports Hot-swap only in RAID mode. In case of HDD failure, the HDD is replaceable without turning the power off. Once a HDD replaced, the existing RAID setup is not valid any more. Additional works like recovery or resync have to be done to make the RAID setting works.
- SRN-4000 does not support Hot-swap in non-RAID mode. In case of HDD failure, the power should be turned off before swapping the failed disk.
- SRN-1000 does not support Hot-swap in RAID mode and non-RAID mode. In case of HDD failure, the power should be turned off before swapping the failed disk.
- When it comes to the initial installation of HDDs, is it also Hot-swappable?
- SRN-1000 does not support Hot-swap, so the power should always be turned off before installing the HDDs..
- SRN-4000 does not support How-swap in non-RAID mode, so the power should be turned off before installing the HDDs. If the HDDs are installed while the power is on, the recording function will not work properly.
- In non-RAID mode, it is possible to install the HDDs without turning the power off when it comes to RAID building. Other than that, the power should be turned off before installing.
- Hot-Standby function is available on Hanwha NVRs?
- SRN-4000 does not support Hot-Standby.
- SRN-1000 partially supports Hot-Standby under the following conditions.
- In case of the RAID setup with 4 HDDs, Hot-Standby function is not available.
- In case of the RAID setup with 8 HDDs, Hot-Standby function is compulsory.
- According to the capacity of the single HDD equipped, the
- Configuring RAID system, is there any limitation according to a single HDD capacity?
- The max. configurable capacity of RAID system is 16TB because of NVR OS limitation.
- SRN-4000 supports RAID level 6 only when six of 4TB HDDs are equipped.
- SRN-1000 does not support 4TB HDDs at the moment. (June, 2014) -> This is updated to support 5TB HDDs with firmware 1.52(DEC, 2015).
